Property valuationCorfe Castle is a Purbeck stone village in a gap through the Purbeck Hills, below the National Trust castle ruins and on the Swanage Railway. Its homes are mostly stone cottages and village houses, several of them listed, and many are second homes or holiday lets, so long lets and sales are both limited.
Corfe Castle is a village of grey Purbeck stone in a gap through the hills, below the ruins the National Trust looks after, with steam trains on the Swanage Railway passing through. People move here for the setting and the community, and many buy cottages as second homes. Flexie Estate Agents lets, sells and values homes in the village from our Bournemouth office.
Renting in Corfe Castle
Long lets are limited, because many cottages in the centre are second homes or holiday lets. Homes that do come up are more often houses and bungalows on the edges of the village. Tenants are local families, staff at the National Trust, the railway and the pubs, and people working in Wareham or Swanage. Parking matters: the village centre is busy with visitors in summer.
For furnished stays of a month or more, the group's apartments are in central Bournemouth (property to rent in Bournemouth); holiday lets, a large part of the village's stock, are managed through Sea Breeze (holiday let management).
Buying and selling in Corfe Castle
Buyers are second-home owners, retirees, walkers and local families. Listed stone cottages need careful upkeep and consent for changes, and buyers check for both. Selling your property in Corfe Castle and property valuation in Corfe Castle explain our approach, and the conveyancing guide covers the legal steps.

Dorset Council handles council tax, housing standards and planning, and at the time of writing charges a 100% premium on furnished second homes. Older listed cottages can be hard to bring to the EPC standard without consent. Letting agents in Corfe Castle covers how we let and manage.

Outstanding from start to finish
The apartment exceeded our expectations with its modern design and thoughtful touches throughout. Walking distance to both the seafront and shopping areas made it incredibly convenient. Clear instructions, responsive host. Would absolutely stay here again on our next visit to Bournemouth.
Modern, clean and superbly located
Lovely apartment in very close proximity to Bournemouth town centre and beach. Modern, very clean and well equipped. Onsite parking was a big plus, making it easy to explore the area. The host was very responsive and helpful throughout our stay.
Second stay, and we'll be back
Great apartment at a perfect location. Jack and the team were so easy to deal with. This is our second time at this apartment block and we'll definitely be returning. Clean, well-maintained, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

Estate agents in Corfe Castle: questions
Which council covers Corfe Castle?
Dorset Council, which collects council tax and decides planning. The village is outside the BCP area. Much of it is a conservation area with many listed buildings, and the surrounding countryside lies within the Dorset National Landscape, so alterations often need consent.
Do Corfe Castle second homes pay extra council tax?
At the time of writing, yes. Dorset Council has charged a 100% premium on furnished homes that are nobody's main residence since 1 April 2025. A holiday let that passes the business rates test pays business rates instead. This is general information, not tax advice.
Is there a train from Corfe Castle?
The Swanage Railway calls at Corfe Castle, but it is a heritage line running to Swanage and the Norden park and ride, not a commuter service. For the main line to Poole, Bournemouth and London Waterloo, use Wareham station, a short drive north.
Are many Corfe Castle homes listed?
Yes, a number of the stone cottages in the village centre are listed buildings, and much of the village is a conservation area. Repairs and alterations, including windows, roofs and energy improvements, may need consent from Dorset Council.
Can I rent long term in Corfe Castle?
Occasionally. Many cottages are second homes or holiday lets, so long lets are few. Houses on the edges of the village come up more often than cottages in the centre. Register with us and look at Wareham as well.
