Flexie Estate Agents lets flats and houses in Weymouth on long tenancies, and through Sea Breeze, our holiday let arm, manages homes here for visitors. The town is about an hour west of our Bournemouth office, and landlords choose tenant find, rent collection or full management. This page is the Weymouth detail behind our letting agents service.

What lets in Weymouth

  • Flats in the Esplanade terraces. Single tenants, couples and retirees who want the sea view and the town centre. Lifts are rare and parking is limited.
  • Harbour and Nothe cottages. Couples who want the quayside pubs and the walk to the ferry and the beach.
  • Park District and Rodwell terraces. Workers and young families close to the station and the town centre.
  • Family houses in Preston, Radipole, Littlemoor and Wyke Regis. Families, hospital staff commuting to Dorchester, and port workers heading for Portland.

The town is described on our Weymouth area page.

How we let your property

We visit and give a rent range with the likely tenant, starting from the instant rent estimate. We photograph, write the listing for that tenant, list on the portals and contact our registered tenants, including people relocating to the area for work. Every adult is referenced for identity, Right to Rent, credit, income and a previous landlord, and you see the report before you accept. At move-in we serve the agreement, the How to Rent guide and the certificates, protect the deposit within 30 days and complete a photographed inventory.

The checks in a seaside terrace

Every let needs a gas safety certificate where there is gas, an electrical report, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, an EPC of band E or better and Right to Rent checks. In converted Georgian terraces, check the shared hall and stairs for fire doors and alarms, and check whether the building counts as an HMO. Salt air is hard on windows and render, so budget for upkeep. Our landlord legal checklist lists every item.

Holiday let or tenancy

Beach families, walkers and sailing crews keep Weymouth holiday lets busy from Easter to September, and quieter in winter. A tenancy gives a steady rent and a home that is someone's main residence, so the council tax premium does not apply. If a holiday let suits your flat and its lease, holiday let management through Sea Breeze costs 16% commission with no retainer.

Tenants who work on Portland

Portland Port and the National Sailing Academy are across the causeway beside Chesil Beach, and many people who work there rent in Wyke Regis or the south of the town rather than on the island. A family house or flat with parking within a short drive of the A354 suits them. Some come on fixed contracts and want a furnished home, which we can advise on before you decide how to let.

The local market

The Weymouth property market

Weymouth is the largest town in Dorset Council's area, with Georgian seafront terraces converted to flats, harbourside cottages and suburban family houses in Preston, Radipole and Wyke Regis. It rents to families, hospital and port workers and people who want the sea at a lower price than the BCP coast, and it sells to retirees, second-home buyers and families.

Weymouth's rental market is wider than its holiday reputation. Staff at Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester, about eight miles away, rent here for the town and the beach. Workers at Portland Port and the sailing academy across the causeway, council and public sector staff, retail and care workers, and families who want the sea at a lower cost than the BCP coast all rent in DT4 and DT3.

The stock varies by street. Georgian terraces on the Esplanade are mostly divided into flats; the harbour and the Nothe have older cottages; Park District and Rodwell have Victorian and Edwardian terraces; Preston, Radipole, Littlemoor and Wyke Regis have semis, bungalows and family houses.

Three local points.

The council. Weymouth and Portland Borough Council was replaced by Dorset Council in 2019, and at the time of writing Dorset Council adds a 100% premium to the council tax on a furnished home with no resident.

Converted terraces. Buildings split into flats may fall under HMO rules for converted blocks, and shared parts need fire safety attention.

Holiday or long let. Seafront and harbour flats suit both; the lease often decides.

Who rents and buys in Weymouth

  • Value by the sea. Weymouth offers sea views and a sandy beach at prices below the BCP coast, which brings buyers and tenants who want the sea on a tighter budget.
  • Hospital, port and public sector workers. Staff at Dorset County Hospital, Portland Port and the council rent in Weymouth for the town and the commute to Dorchester.
  • Retirees and second homes. Seafront and harbourside flats sell to retirees and to second-home buyers from London and Bristol, who can reach the town by direct train.
  • Holiday lets and sailing. Beach families, walkers and sailors at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy keep holiday lets busy from Easter to September.
  • Families. Family houses in Preston, Radipole and Wyke Regis rent and sell to households who want schools, gardens and the beach.
Winter and long stays

Let furnished, from 28 nights, all year round.

A furnished flat in Weymouth does not have to sit on a twelve-month tenancy or empty from November. Through the group's platform, Flexiestays, it can be let to contractors, relocations, hospital staff and visiting families for a month or more at a time.

  • Stays of a month to several months
  • Guests looking for somewhere to live, not a holiday
  • Fills the gaps between tenancies and summers

FAQs

Letting agents in Weymouth: questions

Who rents in Weymouth?

Staff at Dorset County Hospital, Portland Port and the sailing academy, public sector and care workers, retail and hospitality staff, families who want the beach and the schools, and retirees in flats near the Esplanade. Each part of town suits a different tenant.

Do converted seafront buildings need a licence?

A flat let to a single household usually does not. A building converted into flats without meeting the 1991 building regulations may be a section 257 HMO, and a home shared by five or more people needs a mandatory licence. Check Dorset Council's housing pages for the address.

Should my seafront flat be a holiday let?

It may suit one, if the lease allows short lets and you want summer income and some use yourself. A tenancy gives a steady year-round rent. We compare both, and Sea Breeze manages holiday lets for 16% commission with no retainer.

Do you cover Weymouth from Bournemouth?

Weymouth is about 38 miles, roughly an hour, from our Charminster Road office. We carry out valuations, viewings and check-ins at the property, and confirm which service level and which local contractors we can offer before you instruct us.

What has the Renters' Rights Act changed?

At the time of writing, since 1 May 2026 assured tenancies in England are periodic, section 21 has gone, rent can rise once a year by section 13 notice and no more than one month's rent can be taken in advance. We write agreements to the current rules; this is not legal advice.

What letting services do you offer?

Tenant find, rent collection and fully managed. All include marketing, referencing, the tenancy agreement and deposit protection; full management adds inspections, repairs and certificate renewals. Fees are confirmed in writing before you instruct us.

Outstanding from start to finish

The apartment exceeded our expectations with its modern design and thoughtful touches throughout. Walking distance to both the seafront and shopping areas made it incredibly convenient. Clear instructions, responsive host. Would absolutely stay here again on our next visit to Bournemouth.

Second stay, and we'll be back

Great apartment at a perfect location. Jack and the team were so easy to deal with. This is our second time at this apartment block and we'll definitely be returning. Clean, well-maintained, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
