Selling a home in Ringwood means selling to buyers who want the New Forest without giving up a town: a market every Wednesday, a secondary school, and roads to Bournemouth, Southampton and Salisbury. Flexie Estate Agents values, markets and sells homes here from our office about ten miles away, as part of our selling your property service.
How homes sell in Ringwood
A cottage near the Market Place, a family house on one of the estates and a bungalow on the Forest edge all have different buyers. The particulars have to say which one a home is for, and show what that buyer wants: the walk to the shops, the walk to the Forest, the garden or the route to the A31. Many Ringwood buyers are moving from outside the area and do much of their research online, so accurate photographs, a floor plan and a clear description of the location do a lot of the work. The town is described on our Ringwood area page.
What to have ready
- Planning history. Permissions and building regulations sign-off for extensions, and whether the home is in the National Park or the conservation area.
- Services. Some homes on the edges are off mains gas or drainage; buyers want details of oil tanks, septic tanks or treatment plants.
- Flood information. Homes near the Avon may have a flood history or be in a flood risk zone; buyers and insurers ask.
- Guarantees and certificates. Boiler, windows, damp work and electrical certificates.
Our selling your home checklist lists the full set.
Presenting the home
In a Forest town buyers picture themselves walking out of the door with a dog or a bike. Show the boot room or utility, the garden gate and the storage. In town-centre cottages, show the light and the character, and say honestly where the car goes.
Marketing and the sale
We photograph, measure, write the particulars and list on the portals, and we send the details to buyers registered with us for Ringwood and the Forest. We accompany viewings, report feedback, negotiate offers and stay with the sale through the searches, the survey and exchange, chasing the chain where there is one.
Timing a sale in a Forest town
Ringwood buyers often first see the town on a visit to the Forest, so spring and early summer, when the heath and the gardens look their best, bring the most viewings. Families want to move before September; retirees and downsizers buy all year. A Wednesday viewing lets a buyer see the market as well as the house, and we offer one where it suits.
Compare before you decide
A property valuation in Ringwood gives a sale price and, if you want it, a rent. If letting is an option, letting agents in Ringwood explains how it would work. We sell on the same terms in Bournemouth and across the New Forest.
The Ringwood property market
Ringwood is a Hampshire market town under New Forest District Council, with cottages and townhouses in the centre and family houses and bungalows around it. Tenants are families, commuters on the A31 and A338 and people who want the Forest on the doorstep; buyers include families, retirees and households moving out of Bournemouth or up from Southampton.
Ringwood buyers come from further away than the town's size suggests. Families move from Bournemouth, Southampton and London for a market town with a secondary school, gardens and the New Forest a few minutes away. Commuters choose it for the A31 to Southampton and the M27 and the A338 to Bournemouth and Salisbury. Retirees and downsizers buy bungalows and smaller houses near the Market Place, and some second-home buyers look for a Forest base.
What they ask depends on the house.
In the conservation area. Period cottages and townhouses near the Market Place sell on character. Buyers want consents for past work and ask about parking.
On the Forest edge. Homes inside the National Park face stricter planning. A buyer pays for the house as it stands, so any existing permission or past extension counts.
Second homes. At the time of writing a buyer of a second home pays the 5% stamp duty surcharge and, if it is furnished and empty, New Forest District Council's 100% council tax premium.
Who rents and buys in Ringwood
- The New Forest. People who want to walk, ride or cycle in the Forest every week rent and buy here for a town with shops and schools on the Forest's edge.
- Commuters on the A31 and A338. The roads put Bournemouth, Southampton and Salisbury within commuting distance, so the town draws workers from all three.
- Families. A secondary school in the town, a walkable centre and gardens bring families who rent while they settle and then buy.
- Retirees and downsizers. Bungalows and smaller houses near the Market Place sell to older buyers, many from further afield, who want the Forest and the market within reach.

Selling your property in Ringwood: questions
Who buys homes in Ringwood?
Families moving for the schools and the Forest, commuters using the A31 and A338, retirees and downsizers buying bungalows and smaller houses near the Market Place, and a smaller number of second-home buyers. Many come from outside the area, which affects how we market a home.
Does being inside the National Park change my sale?
It can. Inside the park the National Park Authority decides planning, and extensions and outbuildings face tighter limits. Buyers pay for the house as it stands, so we collect the planning history and any permissions for the particulars and for the buyer's solicitor.
When do Ringwood homes sell best?
Spring and early summer bring the most buyers, when the Forest and gardens look their best and families want to move before September. Autumn is a second season. A well-priced house sells in any month, so we launch when the home and the paperwork are ready.
Is Ringwood in Hampshire for selling purposes?
Yes. The town is in Hampshire, under New Forest District Council, though its postcode is BH24. Local searches go to the district council and, where relevant, the National Park Authority. We note that in the particulars so buyers searching Dorset and Hampshire both find the home.
Do you have homes for sale in Ringwood?
We do not list homes for sale yet. Buyers can register their search with us and vendors can book a free sales valuation. We will not claim buyers or completed sales we do not have.

Outstanding from start to finish
The apartment exceeded our expectations with its modern design and thoughtful touches throughout. Walking distance to both the seafront and shopping areas made it incredibly convenient. Clear instructions, responsive host. Would absolutely stay here again on our next visit to Bournemouth.

Lovely apartment in very close proximity to Bournemouth town centre and beach. Modern, very clean and well equipped. Onsite parking was a big plus, making it easy to explore the area. The host was very responsive and helpful throughout our stay.
Second stay, and we'll be back
Great apartment at a perfect location. Jack and the team were so easy to deal with. This is our second time at this apartment block and we'll definitely be returning. Clean, well-maintained, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
